The document that started the competition Oklahoma is in. The Department of Energy issued it on January 28, 2026, asking states whether they wanted to host a Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campus. Answers were due April 1, 2026.
A Request for Information is not a contract, a grant, or a bid. It asks a state what it would be willing to host, what it would put in, and what it would need from the federal government. The Department describes a campus as one site holding stages of the fuel cycle that are now scattered across the country: fuel fabrication, enrichment, recycling used fuel, and permanent disposal. It would be set up as a voluntary partnership between the federal government and a state.
