Renewable Energy
Oklahoma is an energy state, with renewable energy providing a significant opportunity to continue this leadership position. Home to the 9th best wind resource in the nation, Oklahoma has no lack of renewable energy resources available to its residents.
The Oklahoma State Energy Office works in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and their individual technology programs to facilitate deployment of renewable technologies across Oklahoma. Further information on the individual technologies and technical assistance resources can be found on their respective websites.
WIND POWER
Oklahoma is no stranger to harnessing the winds as they come sweeping down the Plains! Home to utility scale wind installations, distributed wind installations and individual home wind installations, Oklahoma wind provides more than 40% of the state’s electrical needs.
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY WIND PROGRAM
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Wind Program is leading the nation’s efforts to accelerate the deployment of wind power technologies through improved performance, lower costs and reduced market barriers.

SOLAR POWER
The energy provided by the sun is one of the most abundant renewable energy resources available. The sun’s energy can be harnessed through two primary methods – photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP). Individuals and businesses across Oklahoma can harness the power of the sun through of PV panels either through rooftop or ground mount installations.
U.S DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY SOLAR PROGRAM
The U.S. Department of Energy’s solar program leads a large network of partners to deliver innovative solar PV technologies that will make solar energy cost competitive with traditional sources of electricity.

GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP GEOTHERMAL
Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) enable Oklahoman’s to harness the stored energy of the Earth to provide heating, cooling and hot water for homes and commercial buildings. The ambient temperature of the earth remains constant, enabling a super-efficient means to heat and cool homes and buildings.
For more information on ground source heat pumps and how you can utilize GSHP technology, contact our partners.
INTERNATIONAL GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP ASSOCIATION
The International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) is a non-profit, member-driven organization established to advance ground source heat pump (GSHP) technology on local, state, national and international levels. Headquartered on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, IGSHPA utilizes state-of-the-art facilities for conducting GSHP system installation training, certification of system designers and geothermal research.
For information contact the IGSHPA at (800) 646-4747 or igshpa@okstate.edu.
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY – GEOTHERMAL TECHNOLOGIES OFFICE
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) is committed to developing and deploying a portfolio of innovative technologies for clean, domestic power generation. The Geothermal Technologies Office researches, develops, and validates innovative and cost-competitive technologies and tools to locate, access, and develop geothermal resources in the United States.
For information contact the GTO at (202) 287-1818 or geothermal@ee.doe.gov.
